Some additional information about Corten Steel:

There are many names for this material, many use the name Weathering Steel but it is also often referred to as COR-TEN or Rusting Steel and sometimes written without the hyphen as corten steel. It is a group of steel alloys which were developed to stop the need for painting container ships. Corten generally forms a stable rust-like appearance after exposure to the elements. This protective layer (Patina) will develop over time and at first it will have a protective layer with a reddish brown hue which will continue to develop and darken over time.

Its unique look and finish has made COR-TEN a very popular and aesthetically pleasing building material. In Australia Corten is often a very popular choice for architects and builders alike. Despite the corrosion on the surface of the steel the material still contains almost double the tensile strength of mild steel, this makes Corten an almost perfect structural material for buildings.
